Company
History

Area Erectors, Inc. was founded in 1964 by
Gerald Youmans. At this time Area was in the business of steel fabrication
in addition to steel erection. In 1985, the current President, Craig
Shelton, and two partners purchased Area. After a period of time these two
partners were bought out, and another partner was brought on board. Due to
the recent passing of this partner, Mr. Shelton is currently the sole owner of Area
Erectors.
After purchasing Area, Mr.
Shelton felt that it would be best to sell the steel fabrication division.
This action did provide some advantages at the time. It allowed Area to
concentrate on one area of expertise - steel erection. Now Area was no
longer a competitor to other fabricators, thus expanding it's market to these
other companies.
After having success in the area of steel erection, a decision was made to expand into the pre-cast concrete erection
service. Ed Kissick was hired and the pre-cast division was born.
Over the years, the reputation of this division has grown right along with its
older brother - the steel division.
Word began to spread about Area's
high quality, on-time service. This growth and recognition allowed Area to
expand into the Chicago, Central Illinois, and Milwaukee area markets.
Due to Area's reputation, the company has enjoyed solid and steady growth over the
years. Since 1994, Area Erectors has been ranked within the top 20 steel
erection companies nationally in Engineering News Record's annual report. Most recently, it was ranked
fourth in the nation based on 2005 revenues.
